Born of a surrogate mother

Olivia Maurel, 32, was born to a surrogate mother and today she is fighting on the front line against the practice, which she describes as 'atrocious' and 'monstrous'. She always knew something was wrong with her family. She suffers from depression, has had problems with alcoholism and has attempted suicide several times. Only recently has she discovered the truth about her origins and that she suffered the trauma of abandonment. "To no child," she says, "should what happened to me ever happen again."

Commercial or 'altruistic' surrogacy must be abolished. These are the words of Olivia Maurel, born in December 1991 in Kentucky by traditional surrogacy (i.e. in which the oocyte also belongs to the 'surrogate mother', ed.), who recounted her experience in a conference at the parliament of the Czech Republic. Today, married with two children in Cannes, 'proud to be a feminist' as we read on her X page, she fights against surrogacy. Her testimony, very valuable as there are still very few [...]

Israel 7 October: Appeal for recognition as mass feminicide

The women victims of the Hamas attack were not killed like all other civilians: they were exposed naked, raped, brutalised, humiliated, decapitated, their bodies burnt and torn to pieces. "We wanted to dirty them," say the terrorists. The violence against these women meets the definition of mass feminicide: from France a petition to international NGOs

British academics against cancel culture

On 20 November, the London Universities Council for Academic Freedom will be unveiled, a body that brings together a hundred or so professors from the major British universities with the intention of fighting against the censorship and single-mindedness that in recent years have impeded academic debate and freedom, compromising the education of thousands of students. In the crosshairs especially Lgbtq+ realities such as Stonewall that have heavily influenced university and higher education. About time, and go on!

As reported by The Telegraph, more than a hundred academics from the UK's top universities have joined forces to tackle the growing threat of cancel culture through the creation of a new body dedicated to academic freedom. In a pioneering initiative, the scholars have formed the 'London Universities Council for Academic Freedom', involving all academic institutions in the capital including University College London (UCL), King's College London, [...]

13 November in The Hague against surrogacy

The Private International Law Conference is pushing for transnational recognition of gestation per se contracts with the intention of forcing national legislation to benefit biomarket profits. The Icams coalition against GPA organised a demonstration in defence of women's dignity and against the market in girls and children

The International Coalition to Abolish Surrogacy (ICASM) organised an international demonstration in front of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) on 13 November to oppose the regulation of cross-border 'surrogacy'. Indeed, attempts are being made to impose international regulation of so-called 'surrogacy': as of 13 November, the HCCH will set up a working group with the task of drafting a convention to allow cross-border recognition of contracts. This is to meet the growing demand in the biomarket [...]

Canada: gender critical nurse risks her job

Amy Hamm works in a psychiatric ward and is under investigation for promoting women's rights based on sex and child protection online. The BCCNM, the body that regulates the nursing profession, intends to suspend her unless she participates in a re-education programme but Amy opposes this: the hearing is underway. US journalist Megyn Kelly interviewed her

Canadian nurse Amy Hamm - one of the founders of the non-profit coalition Canadian Women Sex Based Rights (caWsbar) - works in an acute psychiatric ward specialising in mental health and substance use. Amy risks losing her nursing licence and her job because she allegedly promoted women's sex-based rights and child protection online. In recent years, Amy has been the subject of an investigation by the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives [...]

No more drugs for children with gender dysphoria!

For many years a pioneer of puberty blocker and hormone-based treatments for 'gender non-conforming' minors, Finnish psychiatrist Riittakerttu Kaltiala now denounces these 'therapies' as dangerous, useless and lacking in scientific evidence. And she calls on doctors around the world to find the courage to break the silence imposed by activist censorship and the media's rubber wall

In Italy there persists an obstinate silence on pharmacological treatments for minors with gender dysphoria (puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, 'gender reassignment' surgery) according to the protocol of so-called gender affirmative therapy. It is not possible to know how many minors have been treated or are undergoing treatment, in how many and which centres they are treated and with what 'success' (or failure) rates. While throughout the Western world the debate has been open for some time and in some countries [...]

This History must end

War is not an invention of women. War reduces us to prey and makes us dumb things. Positioning ourselves -on this side or that side- does not give us peace. Peace is not the interval between one war and another. Peace is not helplessness but an active force that regulates relationships and settles conflicts. We demand that rebellious children recognise their mother's authority and shirk the obligation of acts of domination and overpowering

'War has always been the specific activity of the male and his model of virile behaviour'. Carla Lonzi, Manifesto of Women's Revolt, 1970 War is not our invention, nor is that desperate form of war that is terrorism. Positioning ourselves -on this side or that side- does not give us peace, it disorients and divides us, but we are not allowed any other movement than to seek refuge in an impossible extraneousness. We recognise ourselves with pain in the 'enemy'. [...]

The 'right' to have a slave: Hagar and the womb for rent
For days, the supporters of the GPA have been jubilantly spreading the 'news': even God allows a woman to bear children for others, as the biblical account of Sarah -wife of Abraham unable to conceive- and her servant Hagar who lent her womb shows. So today, too, temporary slaves are being claimed: a real ethical and political short-circuit. And an autogoal. Also because the Genesis account should be read in its entirety
For days on social media, the supporters of the womb for rent, in particular many LGBT+ activists and their supporters, have been reviving the story of the slave girl Hagar and her son Ishmael (Genesis 16 and 21) to support the lawfulness and goodness of their cause. The meaning would be: even God allows a woman to bear a child for others. So: nothing wrong with our claim. In fact, we too are entitled to have female slaves. A logical, political and ethical short-circuit. They do not know [...]

Only happiness
The uterus for rent universal offence is a quasi-law, approved by a large majority in the Chamber. With rare exceptions, the Left voted against (the absence of Schlein and Conte in the Chamber was clamorous). Final approval in the Senate is expected by the end of the year. Finally the result, after so many years of bare-knuckle fighting. Hoping that Italy can become a model for the legislation of other countries in the defence of fundamental human rights
We could give you a summary of the many and very long previous episodes. We could list the threats, the insults, the deplatforming, the doors slammed in our faces, all the times we were mocked, ridiculed and pilloried, the international blacklists that marked us as absolute enemies, as homophobic, retrograde, residual, out of history, reactionary, bigoted, witches, Terf. We could tell you how the huge business of assisted reproduction has opposed us. We could tell you about how the left, women and men, opposed us [...]

For the true good of children
Demanding the full transcription of birth certificates for those born from surrogacy and other assisted fertilisation practices, rejecting the path of adoption by 'intended' parent (stepchild) indicated by the Court of Cassation and validated in these hours by the European Court of Human Rights, harms minors in the first instance. And deprives them of those rights they claim to want to defend: our communiqué
We of the Network for the Inviolability of the Female Body, RadFem Italia and FINAARGIT ((International Feminist Network Against All Artificial Reproduction, Gender Ideology and Transhumanism) with the support of all the associations worldwide that oppose so-called gestation for others, from Ciams to Stop Surrogacy Now, and eminent international feminist personalities such as Sylviane Agacinski, Gena Corea, Phyllis Chesler and Jennifer Lahl - We reiterate our condemnation of the practice and renew our hope that the 'universal offence' of surrogacy, currently in [...]

YES TO THE ITALIAN LAW ON THE UTERUS FOR RENT AS A UNIVERSAL CRIME: THE APPEAL OF ALL THE WORLD'S LEADING ABOLITIONIST NETWORKS
CIAMS, STOP SURROGACY NOW, FINRRAGE, LA JAPAN COALITION and other associations. And together with them such eminent figures of international feminism as SYLVIANE AGACINSKI, GENA COREA and PHYLLIS CHESLER. Who together with us are asking the Italian parliamentarians to approve the law that will pass the Chamber of Deputies on 19 June.
Rete per l'Inviolabilità del Corpo Femminile (Network for the Inviolability of the Female Body), Radfem Italia, and FINAARGIT (International Feminist Network Against Artificial Reproduction, Gender Ideology and Transhumanism) have always shared the goal of the universal abolition of the surrogate motherhood. Together we support the bill on surrogacy that will be debated in the Chamber of Deputies next 19 June, which extends the punishability of the practice even if it is carried out in a foreign country and which is a decisive step forward in the direction of universal abolition, offering -if approved- a model for other legislations [...].

Why 'asking' Schlein is a mistake
The open letter of 'one hundred feminists' to the PD secretary is based on false hopes: Elly Schlein will not change her positions on the uterus for rent. Nor on the other issues of the transhuman umbrella that the letter does not mention - starting with free gender identity - and that structure her Zan-transfeminist political identity. Is it worth adopting a begging posture?
We hope that the 'hundred feminists' who have written to Elly Schlein - and with a good part of whom we are in constant political contact - will be better off than us, who as the Network for the Inviolability of the Female Body during the primaries had asked for a meeting with the future secretary: not even a hint of a reply. Nor did we expect it, despite the long-standing acquaintance of some of us with her. We did not join the appeal of the 'hundred feminists' who intend to confront Schlein on motherhood [...].

US, gay couple sues: surrogacy is a 'right', must be paid for by health insurance
The two men's claim aims to have the fact that they do not have a womb recognised as a 'disability': an absurd, envious and revealing claim. If they win in court all over America insurance companies and employers would have to reimburse gestations for other for men
A gay couple filed a lawsuit in New York labour court demanding that their employer-provided insurance company pay all the costs of the surrogate uterus for them, in order to ensure 'equal access to fertility treatment'. For all intents and purposes, they are demanding that a gay male couple become a protected category under the law because they are both without a womb and without access to one. If they win the case, in all [...]

Womb for rent fair in Milan: open letter to Mayor Sala
Scheduled for 21-22 May, the event will re-launch the GPA business after a slowdown due to the pandemic. But in Italy, advertising the buying and selling of children is a crime. We therefore call on the Mayor, the Council and the City Council to alert the police and to take any initiative against this blatant violation of the law.
To the Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala To the City Council We have learned that on 21-22 May Un Sogno Chiamato Bebè (A Dream Called Baby) will be held in Milan at the Spazio Antologico-East End Studios in via Mecenate 84. The fair is organised by the same promoters of the "salon", which has already been held in Paris, Cologne, Munich and Berlin, and is coming to Italy for the first time (see here and here). The aim is to relaunch a business, that of buying and selling children, a "sector" which at the moment is [...]

Ukraine: there is also the drama of 'surrogate' mothers
Ukraine is Europe's baby-making factory: thousands are born every year. Today, in order to save the 'product' and the investment, the rich commissioners demand that pregnant mothers leave the country on the brink of war, separating from their families and children. Further violence against these poor and exploited women
Ukraine is on the brink of war. The world is on tenterhooks, Europe could be facing a conflict at home, those who can leave the country but there are also those who do not want to. Like Natalia, 29, a surrogate mother who called her lawyer the other day to find out if she could be forced to leave the country by the 'intended parents', the people who ordered her child. Natalia, the name is fictional, has a husband and children, for [...]

Registering 'two fathers' violates the Constitution
In particular, it violates Article 3 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights, which requires us to be equal before the law. The male couple would in fact be allowed to lie about the filiationis status of the child, something that is never allowed to a mother, who is always required to declare the truth about the paternity of her child. Otherwise, they would be penalised. Unacceptable
The Court of Milan ordered the Municipality to transcribe in full the birth certificate with "two fathers" of a child born in the United States from a rented uterus and purchased oocyte. Since spring 2019, the municipality had suspended the transcriptions of these birth certificates, limiting itself to the transcription of the biological father only. A few months later, a ruling by the Court of Cassation had supported this decision, pointing the way to adoption so-called "in special cases" for the biological father's partner. Subsequently another [...]

The girls' tenderness for 'the two dads'.
Some time ago on the blog "Dads by choice" a video with two children and their two fathers wishing Christmas via Skype to their overseas "surrogate mother" (belly-mummy). Everything was perfect, smiling children, caring fathers, a Christmas home, gifts, the belly-mummy connecting with her children and husband: a "big extended family", says the end of the video. Many comments express perplexity at this narrative of absolute happiness: Skype is certainly not enough to heal the wound [...].

With the 'right' to surrogacy, gays seek a place in patriarchy
Today, 27 January, the Constitutional Court is due to rule on the right of a male couple who have resorted to surrogacy to be recognised as both "fathers" of the child. The orientation expressed in 2019 by a ruling of the Court of Cassation in United Sections was to allow recognition at the registry office to the biological father only, leaving open for the (or the) partner the possibility of resorting to the institute of adoption in special cases, a procedure to be instructed at the Court [...].
